Storyhive Reviews: The Dismantled, Press Pause

Two more of the currently trending concepts pitched for Storyhive, the web series competition you can vote on:

The Dismantled (Vancouver/Victoria) This show is all about a disabled man who finds a way to solve all the issues he has.

Billy, the young man, has fallen off a balcony, shattering almost every bone in his body, but miraculously surviving. He resides in a rest home confined to a wheelchair with his caretaker, Andre, an immigrant from Russia. Andre manages to find a doctor to help Billy with his surgery, but the doctor flat out refuses it saying he is not qualified. Disappointed, Billy meets one of Andre’s associates, who also is confined to a wheelchair. She explains how she’s able to sneak things like medical marijuana in a small compartment that nobody knows about. Billy gets a sudden inspiration about how to get his surgery done, but it’s going to require an extreme crime for that — and for Andre to modify his wheelchair a little more. This entry seems a little dodgy but still sounds like it could make an interesting series. I can actually find myself slightly relating to Billy as I once tried to apply for a kind of surgery but also got rejected myself as they thought it wouldn’t be necessary.

Press Pause (Calgary/Edmonton) This features two girls who have recently moved into their new home together as they’re finishing off the journey to their undergraduate degrees.

Nora is far too focused on her studies, while the other, Rose, is enjoying her freedom away from her family. One night, the two of them go out to a club together, where Rose does some DJ work and Nora avoids socializing with anyone. While Nora tries to study, Rose ends up taking a boy named Rowan home with her and the two get it on while Nora tries to drown them out so she can focus on her studies. There really wasn’t much in this preview and I personally couldn’t follow it very well. The description does state that Nora gets early onset Parkinson’s disease, but that’s not heavily elaborated in the preview.
