Force vs Chipmunks, Dolan vs Netflix, and $100k Awarded Tonight

(Via Marketwired) The Force Awakens ranked first on Twitter and Instagram over the holiday weekend, according to Engagement Labs’ eValue™ score — though on Facebook it took second place to Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Anyway, social media buzz is not just for small filmmakers — though of course it’s out there for everyone.

The Rogers Best Canadian Film Award will be given tonight, reports CP via Mississauga.com. The $100,000 is awarded by the Toronto Film Critics Association, and this year sees Andrew Cividino (Sleeping Giant), Philippe Falardeau (My Internship In Canada), and the team of Guy Maddin and Evan Johnson (The Forbidden Room) competing.

Xavier Dolan doesn’t like what Netflix UK has done to his film Mommy, CBC News’ Jessica Wong reports. When viewers tipped him off to the altered aspect ratio, Dolan wrote an angry letter to the streaming content firm saying that the change destroys the opening-up quality of one scene, which “shut[s] down the emotional capacity.”
