Series Pilot, Short, or What? Sharkasaurus (Storyhive Review)

Sharkasaurus: A series about how a palaeontologist and a creationist become enemies over the discovery of a never-before-seen creature.

In the pitch, Dr. Judith Jones is testing out a seismic scanner with two other palaeontologists to find fossils located in Alberta’s badlands. But as they begin the search and are waiting for a reading, they are interrupted by a creationist clergyman named Peter Matthews.

Reverend Matthews, who is also accompanied by a small team of protestors,  demands that Dr. Jones give up the hunt, claiming she is summoning the devil with her discoveries. The two angrily debate while her assistant Jason records all the footage for evidence. As her other assistant flips the switch to a higher level, a large beast swimming in the ground erupts from the dirt and eats him.

Reverend Matthews and his team attempt to fight the beast, known as Sharkasaurus, but they lose too. Soon, Dr. Jones and Reverend Matthews are the only two left and have to take on Sharkasaurus together while working out their differences.

This pitch does seem fascinating, but it gives away a bit too much in my opinion. I’m not giving out the full ending, but let’s just say it makes the pitch look like a short film instead of a pilot. Plus, the idea of a shark swimming in the Earth were a bit too strange for my tastes. I’m honestly not sure why this is currently trending at Storyhive. I give it 3 stars.3starsWatch and vote on and other Storyhive finalists here.
