Over in Whistler the WFF has recently opened up accepting media accreditation and is giving out tickets. But something else they’ve recently opened is the applications for the Women in Focus Membership program. It’s a very important program for five women or non-binary filmmakers in BC to get a mentor who knows the industry inside and out. Apply now, deadline is October 13.
Aside from that Whistler Wonder, a film called The Power Of The Dog is premiering. As a special presentation from Netflix, the story is about a rancher named who comes off as a disturbing character to people in his area somewhere in New Zealand. He has quite the rivalry with his brother, until one day Phil realizes that maybe he could discover love with someone else and it just might make him into a changed person. Other films coming out for their world premieres include Altar Boy, Carmen, Confessions of a Hitman, Evelyne, Ines, and The Secret Society. They’re all Canadian btw. More details to be online soon but in the meantime, buy some tickets.
For those who are out in Nova Scotia, there’s a great new festival coming out called Devour! The Food Film Fest. Spanning from October 19-24, the festival covers films about food. Plus there’s some great workshops and events going on. They also happen to be streaming it online as well. So set on your salivators and strengthen up your stomach for a vigorizing appetite online or in Nova Scotia if you happen to be there.
