Mostly VIFF

As the 35th Atlantic Film Festival wraps, thanking its sponsors, team, and audience, the 34th Vancouver International Film Festival is just beginning –– look for Nick’s coverage of the opening screening of Brooklyn later today.

(Via WireService.ca) VIFF isn’t just about screenings and galas (though they’re a lot of fun) — VIFF Industry starts on the 29th, with an impressive lineup of speakers and topics. Just as an example, Patricia Rozema will discuss how to transform a premise into a compelling story. More on VIFF Industry’s Screen Dialogues Day later.

Also at VIFF, Can-India News reports, “director and screenwriter Deepa Mehta will make a special appearance” during an event at Simon Fraser University.

Another Christmas themed location shoot was spotted in Metro Vancouver yesterday, following on the glimpse of Runaway Princess production that we got in New Westminster a few days back.

And we will bring you the word on Telefilm’s announcement of the feature film that will be selected to represent Canada for consideration in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 88th Academy Awards as soon as we can, not being able to get to the live press conference in Montreal . . .
