Award Winners from Across Canada (with Video)

No news video today — we’re easing into it. Meanwhile:

(Via Wireservice.ca) Congratulations to the winners of last night’s Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards. Among them were Russ Cochrane for his Orphan Black script, “Newer Elements of Our Defense,” which took home the TV Drama award. But shorts and web series got attention too, along with some special categories like the Writers Block Award for service to Canadian screenwriters (to Peter Mohan this year). The full list of award winners is here.

(Via Marketwired) Speaking of award winners, Emmy and Golden Globe award winner Kiefer Sutherland, who recently turned to music with his debut album Down In A Hole, will be performing at the Horseshoe Tavern on June 27 as part of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival. He says, “To be invited to play was an honour. Not to mention it’s my hometown . . .”

(Via Wireservice.ca) One more award winner — this time it’s a grade 9 student in Vancouver. Marko Jones has won first prize in a first-ever student video contest sponsored by Irrigation Industry Association of BC (IIABC). His short film, Ways We Waste Water, which you can see below, brought the West Vancouver Secondary student a cash prize of $750. It can also make each of us think of the small ways we can waste water in our everyday lives.
