The Calgary International Film Festival is bringing Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival to town starting tonight and running till Sunday. The Calgary Herald’s Eric Volmers suggests what to check out — there’s everything from Omar Khadr to Guy Maddin.

The Marriott Cell, by Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy, will be made into a film by Britain’s Development Partnership, The Hamilton Spectator reports. In his memoir, Fahmy, formerly of Al Jazeera English, tells the story of his arrest and two years in prison in his native Egypt. The book is being adapted by writer/producer/director Michael Bronner.
