Table Kid Kirby: An Animated Series Review

Table Kid Kirby is a stop-motion animation series by Paul Whittington about a little clay man who comes to life.

It all starts out when a blob of clay  transforms into a clay man and explores the surface of the desk he’s on. After having some fun with a few items and nearly falling off the desk, he suddenly spots a device down below and tries to grab it. Unable to reach it, he attempts other methods, which include a magic mirror, and then builds himself a portal to make his way through. The portal only takes him to a strange world which is full of strange colours and an evil robot eye which chases him away.

Other adventures include Kirby exploring more of the desk, observing his owner working on his computer, and eventually exploring the darkness during a thunderstorm where Kirby sees his owner has a hobby: collecting scary masks and similar items.

The final adventure shows Kirby discovering what happens when things get thrown off a ledge. When Kirby realizes a mound of clay, his own material, can land safely, he jumps off himself, only to lose his head temporarily. After reconstructing he finally comes across the strange device he has been trying to reach all this time.

This was a fun little series showing the curiosity of a little model man with the intelligence of a five-year-old. The animation was just perfectly timed and well worked out. However, the really awkward background sound just didn’t really sound like a household, it sounded more like a powerboat. The ending was interesting but at the same time left me a bit confused.
