Over the weekend, I went to an open casting call to see if I could get a little further along the way to becoming an actor. An ad for the open call was posted in a Facebook group for actors around here, so I decided to go to it.
First, I notified the person via email that I would be arriving, and they seemed rather excited. They sent me details of when and where it would be happening, so I set aside some time to head over and try out.
Upon getting there, I realized there were 40 or so other people waiting in line. And while I was waiting, I met one of my former comedy teachers as well as a film associate who was passing by and felt the need to take some pictures.
I was actually kind of nervous at first. The ad hadn’t said much and neither had the email back for that matter. Just to come somewhere at a time and bring a two-page script. What was even more awkward was how whenever anyone went in, it seemed like they never came out.
But it was a legit actor’s studio so there had to be something going on involving actors. After waiting outside for two and a half hours I was finally let inside. All I had to do was wait for someone to call me in to a room.
Once they did, I noticed there was a video camera (same type as the one I own) as well as two casting people who were going to record me and read the script along with me. Since they wanted to speed things up a little more, we only read one page of the script.
After the read through, they let me out and my turn was over. They were going to let in another person after me. And so on and so forth. I was notified that they would email me on Wednesday if they were going to consider me for future work at an actual audition.
