Down Here Set to Premiere in Vancouver

(Via Wireservice.ca) Down Here, a film set in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver that blends elements of a crime thriller and a contemporary social drama, will make its theatrical premiere April 17th in the city where it takes place.

The 89-minute feature film follows the troubled life of Roy Harris (Dean Wray), an alcoholic detective fighting to find a murderer in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. It’s produced by Last Train Pictures, ReckaRecka Films and Naked i Productions.

The venue for the premiere is the Rio Theatre at East Broadway and Commercial (“an experience you can’t download”). In support of Covenant House, all Down Here Productions proceeds will be donated, benefiting at-risk youth in the Lower Mainland of BC.

The pre-screening show, Eastside Stories, is a short that looks at the faces of the Downtown Eastside — well known as the poorest postal code in Canada — through the eyes of local artist, Lauren Brem. It’s also a former Storyhive entry.

Down Here screened at the 2013 Whistler Film Festival.

Director Teach Grant says “While our story is fictitious, the D.T.E.S is certainly as real as it gets, in all matters both light and dark. Vancouver audiences will know better than anyone if we have hit the mark.” And the premiere audience will have a chance to let the filmmakers know — Grant, along with Wray, co-star Tantoo Cardinal, and members of the crew, will be there for a Q&A session.
