Enter Your Video to Become Manitobaville

(Via CNW) If you’re a Manitoba resident with big ideas for your community, you could win $25,000 to make them a reality, and it all starts with making a video. It’s part of a project called Manitobaville.

A media release explains: “Entrants are tasked with filming a short video explaining their dream project and the difference it will make for their community. Projects can include a park, a monument, a building upgrade – the sky’s the limit. The successful entrant will receive a $25,000 cheque towards the Manitobaville project of their community’s choice, with the winning community being crowned Manitobaville 2015.”

The deadline is August 2nd. Finalists will be announced on August 7th, then people will have a chance to vote for their favourite project. The winner will be named on August 21st. See more details here.

Manitobaville is made possible by Westoba Credit Union, SAFE Work Manitoba, Robertson College, Chicken Chef, Star Building Materials Ltd., and Recycle Everywhere. CTV Morning Live and Bell Media Manitoban radio stations will be announcing the winners.

Making videos isn’t just for professional filmmakers anymore, or for recording your family’s big moments — it’s a process anyone can, and should, use to bring their ideas to life for others.

And, for what it’s worth, here’s some unsolicited advice from someone who’s reviewed a lot of grant applications from community projects: Make it clear exactly what all the money will be spent on, get as many people as you can on board (food helps), and keep your goal simple.
