NFB launches 5 Shorts Project

Starting today, a new initiative from the National Film Board of Canada has been launched, called The 5 Shorts Project. This short doc collection was created by production centres all through Quebec such as indie film company Spira and many others in collaboration with NFB.

Partnering with Spira has proven to be successful with NFB as one film,  Interview with a Free Man, has already made it onto TIFF’s Top Ten Shorts List last year, and another, At the Beach, was screened at VIFF. This project will be streaming five non-fiction documentary shorts that were all produced in Quebec. These can be viewed at NFB.ca or even through downloadable NFB phone apps. All five films were shot in 4K, and each run into three to six minutes in length.

The five films being streamed are:  At the Beach, which is all about how people with severe burns deal with their personal issues of not being accepted, World of Passage which talks about Leviathans and the secrets they keep, Hey Lou! which is a pretty basic documentary short on humanity, Hell Runs on Gasoline! which is a film that transitions from a crazy race to a cemetery, and Interview with a Free Man, which shows three different men going through an interview while some very smooth narration goes on in the background.

All films have been produced by Nathalie Cloudier, Colette Loumède and Catherine Benoit. The upcoming second season for NFB’s 5 Shorts Project will partner up with La Bande Sonimage.
