The NFB is sending seven films to TIFF: three feature films and four shorts. In the feature category, Winnipeg’s Guy Maddin is back with The Forbidden Room. This “epic phantasmagoria” begins with a lost woodsman, lately escaped from a clan of cave dwellers, wandering into a doomed submarine. The shorts include documentary Rock the Box, written and directed by Katherine Monk, a film critic and writer based in Vancouver. DJ Rhiannon Rozier says she ran into the glass ceiling, so she did something she never thought she would do: she posed for Playboy.
Bell Media’s pay television network The Movie Network has pre-bought 11 of the Canadian films appearing at TIFF, and supported four others through The Harold Greenberg Fund/Fonds Harold Greenberg. Pre-buys include Into The Forest by Patricia Rozema, Stephen Dunn’s feature film debut Closet Monster, along with the short film Portal To Hell!!!, from Vivieno Caldinelli.
