Film Festival Just for Cats — But Humans Are Allowed

(Via Newswire.ca) We’ve told you about film festivals centering on everything from uranium to tattoos — now here’s one dedicated to the Internet’s favourite animal. The Just For Cats Festival, a special hour-long presentation of the best cat videos from the internet over the past year, will take place at TIFF Bell Lightbox on Friday, April 17  with showings at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

The videos have been programmed by Will Braden, creator of the Henri Le Chat Noir series. Special guests include “Tempty, the beloved cat photo bomber and his giant cat toys”, and deadmau5 (owner of two cats adopted from the Toronto Humane Society, as well as a Juno and Grammy winner). There will also be many cats seeking new homes with the Humane Society’s help.  Just For Cats isn’t just for fun, it’s dedicated to celebrating cats and improving their well-being. However, despite the name, there’ll be no cats at the actual screenings. Good thing they’re allowing humans in or the theatre would be empty.

This is the second year for the festival, which takes place not only in Toronto but several other cities, including Ottawa (June 13), Waterloo (June 18), Fredericton (June 19), and Saskatoon (June 21).  It’s also expected to play Halifax, Montreal, Vancouver and Edmonton, dates to be announced.

The festival is put on by the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS) with the support of Temptations®, makers of the cat treats.

If you like cats, it may surprise you to hear they’re at a disadvantage in that, across Canada, they’re less likely than dogs to get vet care, have permanent ID, or either get home or find a new home if they’re lost. Read about how Just For Cats works to change this, and also about this year’s festival.
