(Via CNW) Once again, Canada will have a chance to shine at Cannes this year. Telefilm Canada wants to highlight some of this year’s talent on display; as Executive Director Carolle Brabant says, “Today, we want to thank these men and women for literally making our cinema.”
They include writer/director Xavier Dolan, headed to Cannes (for the sixth time at the age of 27) with his Juste la fin du monde, appearing in the Official Competition; Tatiana Maslany, star of Two Lovers and a Bear, which will premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight; and François Jaros and Fanny-Laure Malo, writer/director and producer of the short Oh What A Wonderful Feeling, which stars Karelle Tremblay and will premiere at the Cannes Critics’ Week.
Juste la fin du monde (It’s Only the End of the World) chronicles a writer’s reunion with his family as he faces a terminal illness. Two Lovers and a Bear explores the difficult lives of two people in a small Northern community. As for Oh What A Wonderful Feeling — have a look at the trailer below.
The 69th Festival de Cannes takes place May 11-22 in the famous city on the Riviera. For the latest list of exactly what’s playing, see the official (English language) site here.
