Now You See Me 4 Officially in Writing Process

After a long 9-year hiatus, the creators of the widely successful Now You See Me and Now You See Me 2 movies decided to reward their fans with a third instalment of the hit series that grossed roughly $700 million combined globally.

These movies introduced us to the world of heists. With a casino-like atmosphere, the first movie features a big show in Las Vegas. Filming took place in real casino locations such as the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino or the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Now You See Me: Now You Dont hit the theatres in November 2025, nearly a decade after the first movie hit the screens, securing a commendable gross revenue of $240 million at the time of writing.

With reviewers giving it the highest rating among the three movies, the movie showed that the audience’s appetite for master magicians who use their skills to outsmart authorities and get away with mindblowing heists is as big as ever.

Now that the fourth instalment has officially been confirmed by multiple sources, including the producers of the third movie and director Ruben Fleischer himself, let’s look at what we know about Now You See Me 4 so far!

Ruben Fleischer returning to direct

Fleischer is set to return to direct the fourth instalment, with the movie now being “in the writing process.” Fleischer is best known for directing Zombieland (2009), a post-apocalyptic zombie movie that marked his first feature film, as well as its long-awaited sequel Zombieland: Double Tap (2019).

Other notable films directed by Fleischer include Uncharted (2022), an action-packed movie based on a popular video game of the same name, and Venom (2018), a superhero movie based on a Marvel Comics character whose species decides to invade the Earth.

Fleischer was confirmed to return to direct back in April 2025, when Lionsgate officially announced that a fourth movie is now in the works – months before the third movie even premiered.

While we have no official confirmation as to who the writer(s) behind Now You See Me 4 are, we expect at least one of the writers involved in the third film: Eric Warren Singer, Seth Grahame-Smith, and/or Michael Lesslie.

The core characters should also return

Lionsgate is yet to confirm any of the cast members, but once again, we expect at least the core characters to return. This would make it Jesse Eisenberg’s (J. Daniel Atlas), Woody Harrelson’s (Merritt McKinney), and Dave Franco’s (Jack Wilder) fourth appearance, while Isla Fisher (Henley Reeves) and Lizzy Caplan (Lula May) would return to the screens for the third time.

In a November interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fleischer has also confirmed that the fourth movie “will continue the theme of globetrotting magical adventures involving some heists and some performances and continuing to tell the story of these eight great magicians.”

This supports the theory that at least the core characters we’ve grown to love and enjoy on screens should return, continuing the story of the Horsemen as they attempt to pull off magic-powered heists to expose corruption and balance social injustice.

Mark Ruffalos Dylan Rhodes to be more prominent

With several Marvel and Avengers movies lined up in the coming years, Mark Ruffalo’s schedule seems to be busier than ever. As a result, coordinating everyone’s calendars is a feat in itself.

In fact, scheduling issues were the exact reason why Ruffalo’s Dylan Rhodes only appeared in the third movie as a hologram, and why the character didn’t get almost any screen time at all. For the fourth movie, however, Fleischer says to have bigger plans for Ruffalo’s character, as long as Ruffalo’s schedule allows that.

Since the movie is still only in the writing process, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Fleischer move things around to try to accommodate Ruffalo’s needs, given the significance of his appearance towards the end of the third film.

No release date or plot confirmed yet

While no information about the plot is confirmed at this time, various Reddit users already hypothesise on what the next movie could bring to the table.

One Reddit user hopes to see the Horsemen attempt an out-of-this-world casino heist, while another one would like to see the group use magic tricks that don’t actually feel like something taken out of a Harry Potter movie. “The tricks are so outlandish that it’s hard to even follow what’s going on half of the time,” says the user.

Given that the movie is still only being written, any speculations about the potential release date are, well, speculations. While the consensus is that the movie COULD air sometime in 2027, it might just as likely be delayed well into 2028 if the writing process proves to be especially cumbersome.

It will be interesting to see what the producers can cook up for us this time, as the bar for mind-blowing heists gets pushed higher and higher with each new instalment. If the writers manage to turn the script into a thrilling ride, the odds of the movie being a success are greater than the odds even the best online roulette could ever offer.

All the pillars are already there: a returning cast, a strong name with almost $1 billion in revenue, and a director who knows what he’s doing. Should the fourth movie perform well at the box office, it´s likely the saga will continue, and another movie will be released in a few years. The language of Hollywood is simple: Why put an end to something that´s still profitable?

For now, however, the future of the Now You See Me saga looks bright.
