Blessed Sacrament: Kathleen Robertson’s Medical Family Drama Promises Intensity

CBC is adding a new family drama to its 2027 lineup with Blessed Sacrament, a 10-episode series that places a complicated family at the heart of a hospital. The drama follows sisters Peg, Brie, and Amelia Blessing, who work as a surgeon, nurse, and administrator at the institution that has long been part of their family’s legacy.

Their mother, Margaret, runs the hospital as its CEO, bringing another layer of authority to an already tightly connected family. Kathleen Robertson, who plays Brie, is also behind the series as its creator, showrunner, and executive producer.

What Is Blessed Sacrament About?

At the center of Blessed Sacrament is the Blessing family’s connection to the hospital they call their own. Peg, Brie, and Amelia have built their professional lives within the same institution, but their different responsibilities put them in very different positions. Peg works as a surgeon, Brie as a nurse, and Amelia oversees administrative matters, creating plenty of opportunities for their professional priorities to collide.

Above them is their mother, Margaret, the hospital’s formidable CEO. Her position gives the family dynamic an added dimension, particularly when decisions at the hospital have consequences beyond the workplace. The series does not treat the medical setting simply as a backdrop for emergencies. Instead, the hospital is where the sisters’ family history, ambitions, disagreements, and responsibilities come together.

The drama will follow the women as they deal with demanding medical cases while navigating problems that cannot be solved in an operating room. Personal demons and sibling rivalry are among the pressures placed on the sisters, while buried family secrets and changing power dynamics threaten to complicate their relationships further. When they manage to work together, they are described as a formidable force. Keeping that unity intact, however, may prove considerably harder.

Kathleen Robertson Leads From Both Sides of the Camera

Kathleen Robertson has a role in Blessed Sacrament that extends well beyond its cast. She is credited as the series’ creator, showrunner, executive producer, and one of its stars, giving her a significant role in both the creative direction of the drama and its on-screen story.

Robertson will play Brie Blessing, one of the three sisters at the center of the series. As a nurse working alongside her surgeon sister Peg and administrator sister Amelia, Brie occupies a position that keeps her closely connected to both the hospital’s medical work and the family tensions unfolding around it.

Her involvement also places the series in an interesting position from a production standpoint. Robertson is guiding the project as creator and showrunner while appearing as one of its central characters, linking the show’s creative leadership closely to its story.

Chris Cowles is also attached as an executive producer. Blessed Sacrament is being produced by Sphere Media and Debut Content for CBC.

The available production information does not yet identify the series’ writers or director, leaving further details about the creative team still to come.

Saving Strangers Is Easier Than Saving Each Other

The central contrast in Blessed Sacrament is summed up by the series’ own premise: the Blessing sisters can work together to save lives, but dealing with their own family problems is considerably more difficult.

That idea gives the series a clear thematic foundation. The sisters have professional responsibilities that require focus, cooperation, and the ability to function under pressure. Their personal relationships demand something else entirely. Years of family history, sibling rivalry, individual struggles, and unresolved secrets cannot necessarily be handled with the same efficiency as a medical emergency.

Margaret’s role as CEO adds another complication. The sisters are not only dealing with one another; they are also working within an institution overseen by their mother. That creates a family structure in which professional authority and parental authority overlap.

The result is a drama where the hospital can expose tensions that might otherwise remain hidden. The sisters may be capable of putting their differences aside when a patient’s life is at stake, but maintaining that unity when the immediate crisis has passed is another matter.

Wrapping Up

There is still plenty that CBC has yet to reveal about Blessed Sacrament.

Kathleen Robertson’s multiple roles also give the project an unusual creative dimension. As creator, showrunner, executive producer, writer, and star, she is closely involved in both the making of the series and the story of Brie Blessing.

With 10 hour-long episodes planned, Blessed Sacrament has room to develop its medical cases alongside the more complicated story of the Blessing family. Its central question may ultimately be less about whether the sisters can save lives than whether they can preserve their relationship while doing so.
