TMFF Victoria Starts Tomorrow

The Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival (TMFF) has become a premier event for motorcycle enthusiasts and filmmakers. Founded in 2017, the festival celebrates the culture, passion, and artistry surrounding motorcycling. While it began in Toronto, TMFF has since expanded to host events not only across Canada but internationally, bringing together people who share a love for motorcycles and their impact on storytelling.

The festival’s focus is on telling universal stories through the lens of motorcycles, and it has quickly earned a reputation for offering unique and transformative experiences. From emerging filmmakers to world premieres, TMFF provides a platform for the most compelling and captivating films in the motorcycling world.

TMFF Victoria 2025: Event Details

The excitement of TMFF continues in Victoria, BC, with the TMFF Victoria 2025 event, which promises to be an unforgettable experience for motorcycle fans and film lovers. This year, the event will take place on Friday, March 7, 2025, at The Vic Theatre, located at 808 Douglas Street, Victoria, BC. The show kicks off at 7:30 PM PST and will run until approximately 10:00 PM PST, offering a night packed with captivating films and a lively atmosphere.

Presented by Jolly Good Multimedia and organized by the Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival, TMFF Victoria is a 19+ event, so attendees can expect a more mature setting, complete with a licensed venue.  

The evening will feature a mix of films and audience favourites, including documentaries that dive deep into the heart of motorcycling culture, personal stories, and adventures on two wheels. Films like The Freeride Spirit, Motorcycle Mary, Why Would You Do It on That?, and Days in January will be showcased, each offering something unique for the audience to enjoy.

The Films 

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the standout films you can expect to see:

The Rider

Directed by Roberto Serrini, this 30-minute documentary explores the thrill and madness of motorcycle riding. The Rider delves into why riders take on the risks of the road, featuring visuals and insightful interviews. The film, presented by BMW for their 100th anniversary, is a Canadian premiere at TMFF Victoria.

While We’re Here

Directed by Dylan Wineland and Aaron McClintock, this 10-minute documentary takes a deeply personal look at how motorcycling became a form of healing for Aaron, following the loss of a loved one. The film showcases the therapeutic power of riding and its ability to reconnect us with joy in the face of grief. While We’re Here also makes its Canadian debut at this year’s festival.

Motorcycle Mary

Directed by Haley Watson, this 22-minute documentary tells the inspiring story of Mary McGee, the first woman to race motorcycles in the United States. Born in Alaska, Mary overcame personal challenges and sexism to become a trailblazer in the motorcycle racing world, eventually becoming the first person to solo the Baja 500. Her story of determination and resilience will surely resonate with everyone.

A Wilder Way

Directed by Suzanne Jolly, this 25-minute Canadian premiere follows Suzanne’s journey as she embarks on a dream trip to British Columbia’s remote west coast, after recovering from a head injury. Alongside three other women, she faces the challenges of navigating the wilderness on motorcycles, in a story of adventure, camaraderie, and empowerment.

The Freeride Spirit

This visually stunning 16-minute documentary, directed by Roland Blechshmied, celebrates the freedom of off-road riding. Set in breathtaking landscapes, the film captures enduro riders from various cultures as they navigate untamed terrain. It’s a tribute to the unfiltered joy of motorcycling and the deep connection between rider and landscape. The Freeride Spirit makes its world premiere at TMFF Victoria.

Why Would You Do It on That?

Directed by Christian Taro, this 12-minute special screening follows the incredible journey of Charlie Weisel, who embarks on a solo round-the-world adventure on a hand-built, 10-foot-long, fully rigid chopper. The film delves into Charlie’s unconventional journey, answering the question everyone asks: “Why would you do it on that?”

Days in January

Directed by Emil Duvander, this 15-minute world premiere offers a meditative experience, following the journey of a lone rider through the barren, snow-covered landscapes of Scandinavia. With no dialogue, the film immerses the audience in the stark beauty and serene stillness of winter riding, creating a reflective and powerful cinematic experience.

Festival Activities and Other Highlights

Aside from the films, TMFF Victoria 2025 offers a range of exciting activities and events that truly embrace the culture and style of motorcycling. Here’s a glimpse of what else you can look forward to:

Art Exhibitions 

One of the unique elements of TMFF is its integration of art with motorcycle culture. The festival will feature exhibitions like Fast Forward and Breath of Life, showcasing works that blend the craftsmanship of custom-built motorcycles with contemporary art. Expect to see hand-built bikes from some of the world’s top custom builders, including rare and prized models such as the Lost Singapore Vincent Lightning.
