21 Blackjack Film Review

Looking for an entertaining flick to watch this weekend? Then it’s time to get out the popcorn. When it comes to movies, ‘21’ offers it all: a fast-paced thriller about a group of brilliant MIT students who took Las Vegas for millions – by counting cards when playing blackjack.

Better Than the Book

While the movie ‘21’ received mixed reviews, gamblers and blackjack players especially should not miss this film starring Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth, and Kevin Spacey. The 2008 heist film combines Scorsese’s Casino and Gus Van Sant’s Good Will Hunting. Adapted from the original book, the story comes from the bestseller by Ben Mezrich, ‘Bringing Down The House: The Inside Story Of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas For Millions’. It offers an exciting look into the true story of MIT students who eventually made millions counting cards playing blackjack in casinos around the world.

Our Verdict

Any film starring Kevin Spacey has some value as this actor can carry any movie. Mix in the excitement of gamblers beating the house in one of the most popular casino games, and you got yourself a winning combination.

Even if critics didn’t all agree about the quality of the movie, it still managed to do very well in theaters. The film grossed over $81 million in the United States alone. During its first and second weekends, ‘21’ held the top spot as the number one film in the United States and Canada.

Canadian Blackjack

You don’t have to be a genius at MIT to enjoy blackjack. Blackjack represents one of the most popular games at the casino, and you’ll find blackjack tables on every casino floor around the world. Although the game’s success in Las Vegas has declined since the city’s economic recession, blackjack remains the dominant table game in Sin City casinos. Las Vegas has close to five times the number of blackjack tables compared to baccarat or roulette and seven times more craps tables. Looking east, blackjack stands out as one of the most popular games in Macau and Singapore, with game revenues on the rise.

According to online blackjack website, blackjack has remained one of the top five most popular games at the casino, and all kinds of blackjack variations can be found in casinos across the country like River Rock Casino in British Columbia, Casino Niagara in Ontario, or Casino de Montreal in Quebec.
