The Casting Directors Society of Canada (CDC) says the racial and gender disparity in publicly funded media content in Canada “will only rectify itself if direct action is taken.” The CDC, in a media release via ChicArt Public Relations, calls on the industry to encourage Telefilm and and CMF (Canadian Media Fund) to fund media in a way that reflects the fact that this country’s people are very diverse racially — and half of us are women.
In the same spirit, Beth Dewey, whose feature Erasing Eden will premiere June 15 at the 14th Annual Female Eye Film Festival, says (via CNW) “I strive to modernize how women are depicted in film – by extreme measures . . . Eden demonstrates that the modern woman no longer needs a hero or villain in her life. She is both.” Watch Eden’s transformations on the eve of her wedding in the trailer below.
