Order of Canada, Land of Head Hunters, Funding of Stratford Videos

As we’ve noticed before, comic Will Sasso likes working at home, home being Canada, and The Toronto Star has more (from Cassandra Szklarski of the Canadian Press) on the homeward pull for him and others who’ve made it in Hollywood. Sasso says, “As a Canadian, I feel like we all have a stake in the business here.”

Congratulations to Order of Canada recipients Graham Greene (who needs no introduction),  TVOntario CEO Lisa de Wilde, Télé-Québec CEO Michele Fortin, and Lawrence Hill, author of The Book of Negroes, who co-wrote the screenplay for the miniseries. The Ottawa Citizen’s Adam Feibel has more on these and the recipients from other fields. Canada AM’s resident Health and Medical Expert, Dr. Marla Shapiro, was also named to the Order in the list released yesterday, CTV announces, so congrats to her too.

The Georgia Straight’s Craig Takeuchi continues to get film people’s recommendations for must-see Canadian movies, as Vancouver International Film Festival director of programming Alan Franey tells us why we need to see In the Land of the Head Hunters (that’s BC — really).

The Stratford Festival HD project, which will digitize nine live theatre performances, will get support from the federal government, Perth-Wellington MP Gary Schellenberger has announced. Digital Journal has the full story.
