HeirsandGrievances(Via Wireservice.ca) Alison Crowe and Band (the Band being Céline Greb, Sarah White, and Dave Baird) have released their debut, double-album (one live + one studio set), Introducing / Heirs + Grievances, plus a web-based video album. As a media release describes it, “Crowe’s own video aesthetic marries her song recordings with footage from home-movies, vintage documentaries and silent film classics.” You can see a sample here.

Metronews’ Aaron Chatha has the story on the Calgary Film Centre, which opened yesterday with the goal of jump starting growth in Alberta’s film industry. It’ll give filmmakers a place for interior shots, in a province where the weather often disrupts outdoor shoots.

And a new production facility is also opening in Surrey, BC (not about to be outdone by Calgary), the city’s mayor Linda Hepner announces. The Vancouver Sun’s Kelly Sinoski reports that Skydance Media, of Santa Monica, is turning the old Pacific Newspaper printing press building into a five-stage sound studio that can accommodate up to 400 people.

The European Union Short Film Festival is back for its third year — in Ottawa, where the embassies are, so OttawaStart has the story. The screenings are all free, and yes, all the films have English subtitles.
