NSI congratulates alumna Laura Perlmutter on winning the 16th annual Telefilm Canada Pitch This! development award. With Daniel Perlmutter, Laura presented their feature project Demonolatry at TIFF last Sunday, and was awarded $15,000 to help bring it to life. The film follows a couple who head to the woods to work out some issues — and end up literally fighting demons.

The Chilliwack Film Commission is branching out and reflecting that by renaming itself the Chilliwack Creative Commission, The Chilliwack Progress’ Jennifer Feinberg reports. The new name is meant to include music, publishing, digital and interactive media. Though the film industry has been good to the town, it can be, well, “cyclical,” as the story puts it.
