(via reelwest.com) The program for the Vancouver Short Film Fest has been revealed for this year. For the 6th year of this festival, VSFF is showing 23 shorts from all around BC at Vancity Theatre from January 29-30. One of the entries is a submission called Behind the Rocks by a 9-year-old actress known as Maia Costea. The 23 short films are currently in competition for 12 different kinds of awards, $15,000 in cash prizes, and even free membership offered by Raindance Vancouver.
Glenn Whipp of latimes.com writes that creativity from Indie Films usually starts from the financing. Interesting how films like Brooklyn and Room have worked up financing through a patchwork manner of film agreements. “When you’re cobbling together a low-budget film, you’re trying to get enough weeks and money to get something up on screen,” says Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures.
