GO Fest in Whistler: Adventure Film

(Via WireService.ca) If you’d like to experience adventure on film (instead of, or as well as, in real life), Whistler, BC, is holding a festival for you on the May long weekend: its Great Outdoors Festival (GO Fest) featuring the second annual Adventure Film Series. It’s presented by the Whistler Film Festival Society.

“Whistler is renowned as an outdoor adventure destination that attracts thrill seekers and adrenalin junkies,” says WFF’s Executive Director Shauna Hardy Mishaw. WFF’s Adventure Film Series is dedicated to educating, inspiring and motivating audiences about environments, cultures, issues and adventures. It sounds very educational, but also ” covers risks, the mighty and absurd, the unknown, and those experiences that bring us to the edges of our seats with our hands over our eyes or our fists in the air,” according to WFF’s press release.

On the schedule this year is a six film lineup of the world’s best independent outdoor, adventure films:

  • SUNSHINE SUPERMAN, a heart-racing documentary about “the father of BASE jumping” – Carl Boenish
  • THE SEARCH FOR FREEDOM, an insider look into the Action Sports Revolution
  • DOG DAYS OF WINTER, the first feature documentary on the start up of organized freestyle skiing
  • ANTARCTICA: A YEAR ON ICE, which takes you behind the lives of the permanent population who live and work in the harshest place on earth
  • THE OLD, THE YOUNG & THE SEA, a journey along Europe’s surf coast
  • RAD COMPANY, made by Red Bull rider Brandon Semenuk, features a hand- picked crew of mountain bike riders

The films will run May 16th and 17th; all are family-friendly but there are two 19+ screenings. More details at the official site.
