Some VIFF Awards, MIBFF Awards, and Cinemagraphs from Flixel

  • Best BC Film: Fractured Land
  • BC Emerging Filmmaker: The Devout (dir. Connor Gaston)
  • Best Canadian Film: Sleeping Giant
  • Emerging Canadian Director: The Sound of Trees (dir. François Péloquin)
  • Best Canadian Short Film: Blue-Eyed Blonde
  • Most Promising Director of a Canadian Short Film: Never Steady, Never Still (dir. Kathleen Hepburn)

(Via CNW Telbec) The 11th edition of the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF) wrapped up last night at Concordia Theatre Hall with the announcement of the award winners. Best Narrative Feature went to Malik Vital’s Imperial Dreams (USA), Best Documentary Feature is Marc Silver’s 3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets (USA), and for Best Narrative Short we have Loîc Barché’s Le Commencement (France). Congratulations to their creators and the Honourable Mention winners.

(Via PRNewswire) Cinemagraphs are a new visual medium — a still photo in which a minor but repeated movement occurs. Flixel Photos of Toronto, which calls them “magical living photos”, has developed a suite of apps to create these, and has also closed $2.2 million in seed funding.
