Rising Stars at WFF, UBCP Awards, SYFF at AGO

(Via PRNewsWire) The 2015 Whistler Film Festival Rising Stars are Lauren Lee Smith, Jakob Davies, Taylor Russell and Rustin Gresiuk.  The four, all from the Western Provinces and all stars of films premiering at WFF, will take part in ”  series of public events and private industry meetings that includes exposure and professional development.”

(Via PRNewsWire) The Union of British Columbia Performers (UBCP/ACTRA) held their annual awards ceremony on Saturday night;  Michael Eklund won Best Actor for his role in Eadward (our review here). Congratulations also to Camille Sullivan, Best Actress, for her role in Ally was Screaming, Dakota Daulby (Black Fly) as Best Emerging Performer, and all other awardees.

(Via CNW) The Syria Film Festival (SYFF) premieres November 13-15 at the Art Gallery of Ontario. As Syrians endure war and life as refugees, the festival presents a lineup of films that tell their stories. Among them is 50 Feet From Syria, an Oscar-shortlisted documentary set in a Turkish hospital on the Syrian border. Dr. Hisham Bismar, subject of the film, will be present at the screening.
