Atom Egoyan, already a Member of the Order of Canada, has been promoted to Companion by the Governor General in the New Year’s honours, and Rudy Buttignol, CEO of the Knowledge Network in BC, has been named to the Order in recognition of his “contributions to the growth and quality of Canadian documentary filmmaking.” The Times-Colonist has more on these and other honourees, and the full list is at YorkRegion.com.
Thessalon, Ontario, hosted a screening of O Negative, “a short film that may well be this area’s closest brush with Hollywood stardom,” Angie Gallop writes in The Sault Star. Shot in the region over three and a half (long) days last winter by director Steve McCarthy, the short vampire story was named one of Canada’s Top 10 short films by TIFF.
