O Negative, made in Algoma District by Sault Ste. Marie native Steve McCarthy (and screened recently in Thessalon) will show in eight cities across the country, writes The Sault Star’s Brian Kelly. It’s part of TIFF’s Top 10, which showcases the best Canadian films of last year, and also includes the shorts The Little Deputy, Balmoral Hotel and Bring Me the Head of Tim Horton.
The Palm Springs Film Festival, in full swing right now, is unique in several ways, CBC News’ Zulekha Nathoo reports — its timing makes it “a magnet for performers and filmmakers who want to get in that final plug for their movies”, for one thing, so you see a lot of A-list names there. And this year, of course, the Festival is spotlighting a lot of Canadian film.
Writers of “all skill levels and experience” are invited to a professional screenwriting panel at the Artesian in Regina on Friday, the 8th, Creative Saskatchewan announces. Featuring some big name panelists, the talk will focus on “scripts that grab the attention of producers and audiences alike.” You’ll need to RSVP — details are here.
