Mean Dreams (Needs Actors), Best of 7, The Witch

There’s an open casting call in Sault Ste. Marie on the 25th, MFM has announced. This one is for Mean Dreams, a coming of age crime thriller about two teens and a dog on the run from the girl’s bad cop father. Several small parts are being cast; if you can’t make the auditions at the Quatro Hotel, you can send in a video. For detailed information, see here. And yes, this is a paid job.

(Via 24-7PressRelease) Former hockey players and current actors Darren Mann and Kenny Wood-Schatz have a new project in the works: Best of 7, a drama following a high school hockey team shooting to win its first-ever Michigan state championship. Yes, it’s set in the States, but as Mann (a Canadian like Wood-Schatz) says, “Some kids are talking to Canadian hockey teams. Some are talking to American Universities.” Hockey knows no borders. They’ll be looking for locations in Alberta as well as Michigan, and hope to release the film in 2016.

TIFF has just added five galas and 19 special presentations to its international lineup (including the closing night film, Mr. Right by Paco Cabezas). Among the special presentations is a U.S.-Canada production, Robert Eggers’ The Witch, the story of a colonial family threatened by hunger and superstition on the edge of a New England forest.
