French-Canadians in The Revenant, Capilano Grads in TO, Sesqui All Over

Not everyone loves The Revenant — actor Roy Dupuis, who turned down a role in the film, says it portrays French-Canadians as “horrible barbarians.” The National Post’s Tristin Hopper has more.

Two of Capilano University’s Motion Picture Arts (MOPA) grads were honoured by TIFF’s Canada’s Top 10 Film Festival. Matt Drake (Balmoral Hotel) and James Brown (Never Steady, Never Still) talk to Brooke Allan of The Capilano Courier and pass along some advice for film students here.

(Via CNW) Sesqui (short for sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary), a traveling festival housed in portable domes, will make its way across Canada in (do the math) 2017. It includes “a cutting edge 360° film experience” — check out the trailer below. Read more, including how you can partner with the festival, at the official site. Sesqui announced today that it’s receiving support from the federal government as a Signature Initiative of the anniversary celebrations.

Coming up soon — Darren Wiesner talks some more to the very creative team behind the short teen thriller I Dare You.  See what’s next for the film and for the talented people in it.
