Climate Change Films to the Fore, Plus Animation in Montreal

(Via CNW) Montreal will be home to a new state of the art animation studio with plans to start producing nine animated features over the next five years. Cinesite, a leading animation and visual effects company founded in London (the U.K. one) and also working out of Vancouver, is the force behind the plan for this “world-class animation hub in one of the coolest cities in the world” (to quote Peter Nagle, Chairman of the Cinesite board). Some 500 jobs will be created by 2020.

(Via Wireservice.ca) The 6th Bright Nights Baltic-Nordic Film Festival (BNFF) opens in Ottawa on Friday (Feb 12th) at Carleton University’s River Building Theatre and runs till the 21st. Opening the Festival is The Shooter, a Danish thriller on climate change and vigilante justice.  BNFF is presented by The Canadian Film Institute (CFI) and the Embassies of the Baltic and Nordic Nations in Ottawa, in partnership with Winterlude and Carleton University. (Via Wireservice.ca) Congratulations to EyeSteelFilm and filmmaker Matthieu Rytz, both of Montreal, for a successful crowdfunding campaign for their film Anote’s Ark. The feature-length documentary will shed light on the Republic of Kiribati, whose people live just above sea level and can expect to see their homeland disappear within 50 years.
