Animation in the City and on the Road

Halifax (and Dartmouth) becomes an Animated City this summer thanks to the Atlantic Film Festival (AFF) Outdoor Film Experience. Eight animated fan favourites, including Shrek, Frozen, and The Lord of the Rings,  will play on a 30-foot inflatable screen. Admission is free. For locations and the full July-August schedule, see here.

And the Governor General reminds us (via CNW) that Rideau Hall Movie Nights are on for June 29th and 30th (they should have the Ottawa sinkhole fixed by then) — also outdoors and also free. No word on the movie selection yet, but they’ll be Canadian, French one night and English the other, with subtitles of course.

The Vanimator — he’s both an animator and an innovator who turned an old CanPar van into a traveling animation studio. Curtis Horsburgh, participant in the NFB’s Hothouse mentorship program, talks to Global News’ Kylie Stanton about how he lives a nomadic life while still pursuing his art — his one-minute animated film Fyoog has just been released.

Shinan Govani has The Toronto Star’s helpful suggestions for casting Real Housewives of Toronto (Vanessa Mulroney, yes, Suzanne Rogers, no — this is a Corus production). The unscripted show will appear on Slice this coming winter.
