The Spirit (Review)

I thought this was an action movie about extreme sports. Someone forgot to mention it was a documentary.

But anyways, the intro is the story of Trevor Petersen and his interest in extreme sports. First someone tells the story of Trevor and his good pal Steve Smaridge. At this point, I realized this was a documentary. It’s revealed that Trevor got killed in an avalanche leaving behind his wife and kids.

After that moment of sad, we go further into the subject of extreme skiing and how people have skied down the slope of Mt. Robson and even filmed their experiences. Narrated by Peter Chrzanowski, the process of extreme skiing is explained — and how it has to be done with a certain process to guarantee survival. A good training mountain back then was Mt. Serious in Squamish. Mt. Robson is revealed to be the most difficult mountain for extreme skiing but people have turned down due to weather. Chrzanowski reveals he attempted Mt. Robson but failed due to not only bad weather, but even worse luck. Nobody said it would be easy.

Eventually it’s time to try again, this time with Trevor, Steve, and a big team to help with training. Everyone in the documentary goes on discussing how their trip went. Further into the documentary, more people talk about other extreme sports. Not just skiing, but mountain biking as well.

A very old film, but there was some good quality to it. The interviews were interesting and well researched, and the topic was worth listening about. It shows people when it comes to extreme sports, planning and being careful always come first. It didn’t exactly make extreme sports as exciting as they look, but it did show a certain element of them.
