Familiar (Review)

Familiar is another horror film. Like the last supposed one I watched it started with an ominous narration. Unlike the last one it’s a lot more frightening.

The movie is about a man named John Dodd (Robert Nolan) who goes through a mutant-like mid-life crisis and all kinds of troublesome problems. John’s only daughter Jordan (Catheryn Hostick) is off to college, and his wife Charlotte (Astrida Auza) is about to have another baby. John is afraid a new baby could be a sign of his wife leaving him. So he spends the night looking up methods and medication on how to stop pregnancy, and some way he can buy it online.

After purchasing it and obtaining it instantly, John crushes it to powder and serves it in a dinner dish for his wife. Charlotte goes through a bad case of depression when she finds out her baby mysteriously died. Eventually more problems ensue as John starts to feel something attacking him. It isn’t long before whatever is giving him the nasty thoughts  shows itself. John finds the creepiest most disgusting lumpy creature in his belly and tries to eliminate it himself. As Charlotte goes to work, John tries to take care of the monster on his own, only for things to get gruesome.

This was certainly very creepy to watch but it does a good job at being a horror movie. The use of prosthetics was believable, the creepy narration made the movie more frightening, and the whole thing was unsettling in an interesting sort of way. I haven’t seen anything like this in a long time.
