The Adept at FirstGlance

(Via PRWeb) FirstGlance Film Festival, Philadelphia’s Independent Film Festival, opens on October 23rd with “more sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and superhero films” this year, according to  Festival Director Bill Ostroff. And that includes a short from Canada’s Adam Stern, known for his work on Defendor (2009), The Company You Keep (2012) and Continuum (2012).

Stern’s entry, The Adept, tells the story of Ben, a physicist and amateur magician, who’s just trying to perform a card trick for Maddy, his wife and co-worker. He gets more than he was counting on, though. Adam Greydon Reid and Jennifer Spence star in the 10-minute film.

The Adept was produced by Artifex Studios of Vancouver, currently working on Continuum Season 4, and nominated for an Emmy in 2014 for their work on the VFX in Almost Human.

Also featured at FirstGlance will be the winner of “The Rocky Challenge,” a contest that invited filmmakers to create a 30-second or shorter video in the sci-fi, fantasy or horror genre starring, you guessed it, Rocky Balboa. And there will be a costume contest following the horror screening on the night of the 24th, with the winner chosen by the audience.
