Soar Emerging Artist Festival: See, Be Seen, Learn

(Via WireService.ca) The Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge, Alberta, has announced registration is open for the first annual Soar Emerging Artist Festival, a five-day, multidisciplinary arts festival for young and emerging artists aged 18-35. It will take place June 3rd through 7th, but spaces will probably fill up quickly with all the offerings on hand.

The Council says, Soar will foster creative development by combining community-inspired ideas with administrative, promotional and facility support” — and whose creative development couldn’t use some support?

The festival will begin with Cabaret Nights showcasing music, theatre, dance, film and visual art by emerging artists, at the ATB Community Room at Casa, the city’s arts centre, on June 3rd through 5th. These are open to the public and tickets are available at the door for $10.

On the weekend of June 6th and 7th, the festival will continue with a symposium where emerging artists aged 18-35 can learn from established and recognized artists. According to the Council, there will be workshops, panel discussions and artist talks providing professional development opportunities. The cost is $25, and you can download a registration form here.

Sessions that may interest filmmakers include Special Effects Makeup and Face Painting, Mobile Production Unit/Film Wardrobe Workshop, Music for Film (an artist talk by Rolf Boon), The Creation of a Full-length Feature Film (artist talk by Blake Evernden), and panel discussions on Making Independent Films in Southern Alberta and Creating a Promotional Video.

You can find out more at the Council’s site. If you live in or near Lethbridge this is worth looking into.
