The 19th Annual Cinema CNC Film Festival (CNC is College of New Caledonia) opens tonight in Prince George, BC, with eight Canadian films lined up and access to all of them for under $60 — see the Prince George Citizen, here.
- The Valley Below, opening this week, is just the first of “a curated series of Canadian Independent films that will enjoy a sneak preview on the first Wednesday of every month at 18 Landmark theatre locations in Canada”, according to northernstars.ca — read about the project, the Canadian Indie Film Series, here.
- Youth ages eight to 18 who’d like to visit Ottawa and make a short film about it can start by showing their creative chops in another form — “a poster, drawing or painting; an original digital photo; a short story, poem or essay” for the Canada Day Challenge. Read more in the Intelligencer, here.
- Members of the film technicians’ union are being locked out of Egg Films in Halifax, Atlantic Canada’s largest producer of TV commercials. The company says that, to be competitive with Toronto businesses, it needs more control in hiring freelance crews. The Chronicle-Herald covers it here.
