Monopoly the Movie

(Via CNW) “A boy from Baltic Avenue who uses both Chance and Community in a quest to make his fortune” is at the centre of Lionsgate’s new project in partnership with Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures. Yes, it’s Monopoly the movie. The screenplay is “being deftly written by the remarkable Andrew Niccol” award-winning writer/producer/director (The Truman Show, Gattaca, The Terminal), according to Stephen Davis, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer of Hasbro. Lionsgate is financing the project.

Monopoly will be a film for all ages. It’s about making your own luck, what makes you truly rich and, of course, avoiding Jail time! Its creators also promise it will be” visually sumptuous, heartwarming, and full of action and adventure.”

They note that Monopoly is the world’s favorite family gaming brand (hm, didn’t know that) and an integral part of popular culture today (well, everyone knows that) and also that more people are playing the Monopoly game than ever before (who knew that?). Of course, it’s available across multiple platforms and formats, in 47 countries and 114 languages. So there’s a version you can enjoy till the movie passes Go.
