Alison Balnar, Rising Actress

Alison Balnar is a Canadian actress working her way up. Originally from Guelph, Ontario, Alison has wanted to be an actress as long as she can remember, played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at 10, and is now pursuing a professional career in Los Angeles.

This year at the Cannes Festival Short Film Corner, Alison will be seen in a screening of 60 Eight, which tells the story of an eight-year-old boy named John who falls into a 52-year coma. She plays his friend, a girl named Sarah, who spends time with him until she goes away to college. Director Raja Pothineni said that Alison did a very good job working the emotions of her character.

Alison has also gotten another amazing role in Bloggers, an upcoming web series. She plays the role of Carla Becker, the youngest of six international bloggers who work for an online company. Each blogger explores troubles in their lives, such as work and relationships against the background of  the life of technology. Another role Alison has taken is a teenager named Ashley in a science fiction film called Nexus, which takes place in a post-apocalypse world where humans are about to go extinct.

Reflecting on her life and work so far, Alison has stated, “Professional actors are working in a business and you have to work hard to better yourself, to find out what works for you as an actor and to contribute whatever you can to make the grade. I’m really enjoying the journey.”
